Hillsdale Drama educates the artists, scholars, teachers and entrepreneurs of the future. Through challenging coursework and guidance from experienced teaching artists, students train in all aspects of theatre. Students are prepared with skills, instilled with passionate enthusiasm, and emboldened to challenge and inspire the world through the power of the performing arts. We are committed to producing shows that spotlight the stories of marginalized groups of people and create opportunities for a diverse cast and crew.
Hillsdale Drama cultivates a deep and lasting appreciation of the theater through a comprehensive program of community and cultural engagement, educational opportunities, and performances. We nurture and inspire artists, audiences, and arts advocates of all ages by connecting external communities to Hillsdale's exceptional students and rich artistic resources. Each year, the drama program presents three fully staged productions, including a Fall Musical, a Spring Play and a weekend of Student Directed One Acts, giving students a chance to explore a wide variety of repertoire and roles. Recent productions have included "Les Miserables", “RENT”, “In The Heights”, “The Addams Family”, “The Outsiders” and “School of Rock”. Acting training is Meisner, Spolin and Stanislavsky-based and incorporates techniques designed to help students explore the full potential of their own unique resources. Students interested in design and production have opportunities to join our stage crew team and receive pre-professional training in all aspects of technical theatre. When students leave Hillsdale Drama, they have a broad range of experiences and are prepared for success in any university, conservatory or professional theatre.
